Discussion on the end connection form of transmission shaft

The moving shaft is an important part of power transmission in the transmission system. The ends of the drive shaft are connected in a variety of forms, with different characteristics, and whether the design is chosen properly affects the reliable transmission of power. Therefore, the reasonable choice of the end of the transmission shaft is an important aspect in the design.
The sole function of the end connection is to transmit torque. They should make the transmission shaft very neutral, and connect the input shaft to the output shaft by the shaft, either by friction or rigidity, or by a combination of the two. The coupling drive shaft has five possible practical forms:
1, flange. The end of the drive shaft is connected with a flange with an ear fork. Because of its simple structure and easy fabrication and assembly, it is a widely used form of connection. According to the way of centering, there are two kinds of centering, centering and centering. According to the way of force transmission, there is the difference between rigid transmission and frictional transmission.
2 、 slotting fork. The end of the drive shaft is connected to the hub, as shown in Figure 3 a. The hub is provided with a slot, closed and locked and opened and released. It is used more often in agricultural machinery and, as shown in this figure, the rapidly separated spline hub has been standardized.
3 、 spline shaft. A drive shaft with a single universal joint or a double gimbal, whose end is joined by keys or splines on two shafts, as shown in Figure 3 B, steering drive axles, in this form.
4. Wing bearing. The end of the drive shaft is joined by two combinations with small, winged bearings and can be replaced as a composite, as shown in Figure 3 of the C (wing bearing), which is used in construction machinery. The D in Figure 3 is the end form used for mating with wing bearings.
5, end section fork. The end part is a section fork, which is connected with the connecting piece by the cross shaft. The cross shaft of the drive shaft end is mounted in the sleeve, and the sleeve on the cross shaft is fixed in the two semicircle grooves of the end section fork of the driven shaft by a U shaped bolt, and the sleeve is opposite the center, and the connection form is used in the United states.
The main drive shaft of construction machinery is usually flanged or wing bearing. The selection of the ends of the drive shaft shall be considered:
1, the balance of torque transmission
The neutrality of the end form affects the balance of torque transmission. Flange type drive shaft by adjusting the axial clearance of bearing assemblies and has accurate and free of neutral characteristics, so the operation is very smooth; slotted fork and spline half shaft coupling on the input shaft and the output shaft of the center, due to manufacturing tolerances, the axis of center of partial bottom, balance shaft will reduce; and slotted wing fork bearing and U bolt connection is similar, because the cross shaft axial clearance is not adjustable, so it is not up to the high level of quality balance.
2. Reliability of transmitting torque
The design calculation of the end connection is either calculated by rigid transmission or calculated by frictional transmission, and the two should not be included at the same time. The friction transmission is affected by the friction coefficient dispersion, so it is difficult to design the coupling parameters accurately according to the transmission torque. For the sake of safety, the conservative design is adopted and the structure is too large. The rigidity is transmitted by the flat or spline transmission force, the torque is greater and more reliable, so when transmitting large torque, the rigid transmission is better than the friction transmission.
XCMG F series loader drive shaft end for end flange friction type, G series loader drive shaft is a wing shaped bearing type, but in between the drive shaft and a connecting disc box bridge transition, the connecting plate is transmitted by friction torque.
3. Other factors
The end connection shall also consider other factors such as layout, space supply, cost and so on
