What is the structure and function of the Universal Joint?

The universal joint is similar in structure and function to the joint of the limbs of the human body. It allows the angle between the connected parts to change within a certain range. In order to meet the power transmission, adapt to the steering and vehicle running caused by up and down jump angle changes, the front drive vehicle's drive axle, half axle and wheel axle are commonly connected by universal joints. However, due to the limitation of axial size, the deflection angle is required to be larger, and a single universal joint can not make the instantaneous angular velocity of the output shaft and the shaft-in-shaft equal, which is easy to cause vibration, aggravate the damage of the parts, and produce great noise, therefore, all kinds of constant velocity universal joints are widely used. In a front-drive vehicle, two constant-speed universal joints are used for each half-shaft. The joint near the variable-speed drive axle is the inner part of the half-shaft and the joint near the axle is the outer part of the half-shaft. In a rear-drive vehicle, the engine, clutch and transmission are mounted as a unit on the frame, while the drive axle is connected to the frame by an elastic suspension, with a distance between them that requires connection. When the vehicle is running, the uneven road surface makes the vehicle jump, the change of load, or the position difference between the two assemblies, which will make the angle and distance between the transmission output shaft and the input shaft of the drive axle main reducer change, so in the rear-drive car's GIMBAL
